FAQ

Packout, explained

What is packout percentage?

Packout percentage is the share of received fruit that leaves as saleable, packed product: saleable packed weight divided by received weight, times 100. It is the single most useful number in a packhouse.

What is a good packout?

It is crop-, grower- and season-dependent, so the useful comparison is against your own history, not an industry number. A packout that drops week on week for one grower is a signal worth a phone call before the next delivery.

How do I improve packout?

Track it per run, not just per day, so you can attribute a bad result to a specific input lot and grower block. That is where the money leaks are, and where a targeted fix pays back.

How is this calculator worked out?

Saleable revenue is received kilos times packout percentage times price per kilo. The uplift is the same at your target packout minus the current figure. It is an estimate from your inputs, not advice.

Do I need an account?

No. The estimate is free and needs no login. Create a free account to record packout automatically on every pack run, tied to the grower and block.

Stop estimating your packout

Fernable computes packout live on every pack run and ties the result back to the grower block, so the number is real, not a guess, and you can see which lots and growers leak margin.
